Paris Hilton was arrested yesterday for investigation of driving under the influence Associated Press has reported.
Hilton was stopped in Hollywood shortly before 12.30am (5.30pm NZT) and was "exhibiting the symptoms of intoxication" AP reported a police officer as saying.
"A field sobriety test was conducted at scene, and the officers determined she was driving under the influence," said police Officer I. Isabella, reading a police statement.
Hilton was booked on suspicion of misdemeanour driving under the influence and released, he said.
Hilton's spokesman, Elliot Mintz said she had the minimum blood-alcohol level to warrant an arrest. The legal limit in California is 0.08 per cent.
"She's absolutely fine. She didn't appear in the least bit to be intoxicated." Mintz told AP.
