Overweight people charged more for pedicures at nail salon

A nail salon in Tennessee has come under fire for apparently putting up a sign stating that bigger customers must pay more for treatments, reported The Daily Mail.

"Sorry, but if you are overweight, pedicures will be $45 due to service fees for pedicurists. Thank you!" read a sign posted that was posted to Facebook.

"So rude," said by Deshania Ferguson, the woman from Memphis who was the original online poster.

The picture has since been shared more than 500 times with plenty of others equally shocked by the seemingly nonsensical price increase.

Rose Nails usually charges up to $30 for a pedicure.

When The Daily Mail called the salon, the person who answered the phone tried to claim that a wrong number had been dialed.

A local Tennessee station, WREG, had more luck and spoke to the owner, Son Nguyen in person. He denied that the sign ever existed despite being confronted with the photographic evidence.

However, Nguyen did confirm that on occasion he and his wife who run the salon have had to reject overweight people because it is "difficult for technicians to give them pedicures".

He also claims that there have been two chairs broken as a result of larger people coming into the salon, which has cost him up to $2,500.

"They took the sign down and denied ever having it up.... pictures are worth a thousand words," Ferguson posted to Facebook on Friday.
