Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything)
She wore a pleated teal Christian Dior ball gown to the Golden Globes, finished with her hair swept up in a classic style and statement earrings. In all, a safe but elegant look. She goes for ladylike, structured designs, recently wearing a cobalt blue Louis Vuitton sleeveless dress to MoMA's screening of The Theory of Everything in New York and a black Alexander McQueen fitted peplum dress with orange pumps to the InStyle Golden Globes nominations party.

Julianne Moore (Still Alice)
This leading lady knocked Golden Globes fashion out of the park in shimmery silver Givenchy couture. The bodice of her fitted gown was covered in gleaming sequins and featured feathers on the skirt. Moore's look, perfectly finished with a sexy smoky eye and wavy red locks, was one of the best of the night. The 54-year-old wore an emerald green dress from Tom Ford's collection for Yves Saint Laurent to the Academy Awards when she was nominated for her role in The Hours. The designer also directed A Single Man, starring Moore, so don't be surprised if she chooses a Ford creation again for her big night.

Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl)
The luminous Pike unfortunately committed one of the most talked about fashion faux pas of the Golden Globes.
The pretty blonde, sporting a chic lob, chose a Vera Wang floor length cream silk tulle gown with thin straps and strange cut-outs at the front. The cut of the dress didn't flatter her gorgeous figure.
Let's hope she redeems herself at the Oscars.

Reese Witherspoon (Wild)
Witherspoon chose a glamorous floor length pale silver Calvin Klein gown for the Golden Globes - it was strapless, fitted and classic. She skipped the Oscars red carpet last year but she usually chooses modern, classic looks. But she chose a daring black Jason Wu for Hugo Boss dress for the Oscars 2014 Vanity Fair party - the v-neck finished at her waist, revealing plenty of cleavage. For this year's Oscars perhaps she will opt for a colourful gown to contrast with her pale silver Golden Globes look. She wore a vintage embellished Dior gown when she won her Best Actress Oscar in 2006.

Best actress in a supporting role
Patricia Arquette (Boyhood)
Arquette was all glamour on the red carpet at the Golden Globes, wearing a tight black one-shouldered Escada gown with a huge bow detail. She accessorised with a gold clutch and red lips. She also wore black a fitted, black knee-length dress for the Los Angeles Film Critics Association earlier this month so we hope Arquette takes a risk on a colourful gown for the 2015 Oscars.

Laura Dern (Wild)
She wore a pale pink pretty Alberta Ferretti strapless gown at last year's Oscars. She amped up the glamour at the Golden Globes earlier this month in a bronze, belted Roberto Cavalli number with snakeskin-like embellishment. Dern capped off the look with dusty pink lipstick and wavy red tresses.

Emma Stone (Birdman)
The Birdman star nailed the young yet sophisticated look in a killer Lanvin jumpsuit at the Golden Globes. The strapless top was embellished with crystal beads and the pants featured a dramatic taffeta bow. She completed her look with glamorous coral lips, sleek black eyeliner and styled her lob in piecy waves. Definitely on our best dressed list for the night. Stone has been in hot red carpet form recently, most notably her green Valentino tulle dress with a plunging neckline for the Birdman world premiere at the Venice Film Festival.

Keira Knightley (The Imitation Game)
Knightley's butterfly Chanel dress with frills, which she paired with an over-sized butterfly on her wrist, made several worst dressed lists for the Golden Globes. Her look was likened to a grandma's nightie, with some tweeters saying she looked like she had stepped out of television series, Little House on the Praire. Ouch. Given the response to the butterfly dress, we're guessing Knightley will opt for something sleek and classic for her Oscars outfit.

Meryl Streep (Into the Woods)
The red carpet veteran chose a black and white dress with a cape overlay and statement ring for the Golden Globes. She always looks classy, and one of our favourite Oscar looks was the white Chris March gown she wore in 2010 when she was nominated for her role in Julie & Julia. Expect her to wear something elegant and timeless.
