From now on, international artists coming to perform with the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra need bring only a toothbrush and pyjamas: haute couture will be provided.
Tomorrow's Russian Spectacular concert at the Aotea Centre will be the first night of the orchestra's new new idea of dressing international guest artists in clothes designed by local designers.
Designers Liz Mitchell and Zambesi's Liz and Neville Findlay yesterday ran a final eagle eye over the fit of their creations on concert presenter Elena Stejko (left) and pianist Marina Kolomiitseva.
At tomorrow's concert, Kolomiitseva will wear a Liz Mitchell gown and Zambesi has prepared a creation for Stejko.
An orchestra spokeswoman said she hoped the initiative would grow.
"It's a win-win situation for everyone.
"The artists look and feel stunning for their performance and its a subtle but effective way of putting New Zealand fashion on both the local and international stage.
