A dog who was almost euthanised after ballooning to an enormous 30.8kg has been saved by an animal charity which helped her lose weight.
Honey the beagle was put on a strict diet and rehab program that helped her lose two-thirds of her body weight meaning she could soon be put up for adoption.
She was dropped off at the SPCA of Niagara County in New York State and in terrible shape: not only could she hardly move but her belly scraped the floor as she dragged herself along by her front paws.
"I was amazed at how fast it happened," Sue Cable, an SPCA volunteer and foster dog mum, said to NBC. "Once she was in a home and able to move around in that, she just went."
Staff at the SPCA say they would like to see her lose another 2.2kg after which she will be medically cleared and ready for adoption.
