A new drug map built on data from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) reveals New Zealand as one of the world's highest cannabis consumers, and the highest country for drug rehabilitation.
Iran comes in at a close second for treatment, with opioids the drug of choice. It shows Iceland has the highest number of drug overdoses per population.
The data shows New Zealand has 14,392 people treated per 1 million, mainly for cannabis abuse, though the authors warn that issue is hard to quantify for the UNODC so numbers may be quite different.
New Zealand ranks third for cannabis use after Iceland and the United States.
