Marc Jacobs at Louis Vuitton examined the idea of women's obsession with handbags and modern day fetish and translated it into clothes via lots of rubber, sheer peek-a-boo panels and dominatrix heels.
We doubt this will translate to our local market - we're a bit more timid here in New Zealand - but there may be subtle touches of fetish. Think figure-hugging pencil skirts, leather, black lace, collar detailing and a touch of snakeskin (almost a trend in itself).

Let's go retro
Is it fashionable, or are these prints just ugly? Kitsch, retro-inspired prints are this season's bananas - both by the queen of subversive fashion, Miuccia Prada.

Mash up
This one is not for the minimalists. Pattern reigns supreme, with a clashing collage of colour and prints worn with interesting textures and mixed together with various other mash ups - from crochet and PVC at Christopher Kane, quilting at Rodarte, and flower appliques at Mary Katrantzou.

Sixties girl
The 60s return again, with Balenciaga-inspired cocoon shapes, twinsets, coat dresses and a few beehives for good measure. This season the 60s girl is groomed and polished; a rich girl rather than a Mod.

Girls as boys
A classic trend that returns season after season - girls in pants and shirts, pinstripes, tailoring, bow ties and matching suiting.
Think of it as dressed-up menswear.
As seen at: Celine, Moschino, Balenciaga
Graphic material
Colour is still popular, but this season it is less neon bright and more about graphic shapes and blocks of colour or, just as statement-making, graphic black and white.

Motifs
Bold animal faces have been popular, but other motifs have appeared throughout recent collections as well - like, er, fruit.
What will our designers put on their tops? If someone could do something with a big, fat cat face on it, that would be great.

Hang loose!
Variations of tropical Hawaiian floral prints appeared pretty much everywhere in the Resort 2011 ranges, with designers working hard to make the Hawaiian shirt cool again.
Locally, Trelise Cooper touched on this trend with her current season range that features a palm print reminiscent of the famous Beverly Hills palm leaf wallpaper, but we expect (and hope) to see much more.
