Chris Noth, who played Detective Mike Logan on the first five seasons of Law & Order, is set to reprise the role on Law & Order: Criminal Intent.
News of Noth's guest spot has also led to speculation that the NBC network and Law & Order producers are considering him as a potential replacement for Criminal Intent star Vincent D'Onofrio, who has suffered two fainting spells recently, the second of which stopped production on the show for a few days.
D'Onofrio passed out on the set of the show on November 11, reportedly while rehearsing a strenuous scene.
NBC acknowledges that Noth will make a guest appearance on the show but says no cast changes are in the works. Noth left Law & Order after the 1994-1995 season; he is best known for playing Mr Big on Sex and the City. Bergen's legal beagle Five-time Emmy winner Candice Bergen is joining the TV series Boston Legal, in her first regular series role since Murphy Brown left the air in 1998.
Bergen will play Shirley Schmidt, a founding partner in the law firm of Crane, Poole & Schmidt who's been away for some time. Other partners convince her to come back in an attempt to bring some semblance of order to the office.
Bergen won five Emmy awards for playing the title role on Murphy Brown. She appeared on a handful of Sex and the City episodes and will have a recurring part as a judge in the upcoming Law & Order spinoff Trial by Jury.
