2. The key to home ownership
A millionaire Australian real estate mogul recently told millennials that the reason they can't afford to purchase a home isn't because of ever increasing house prices while wages struggle to keep up, but because they enjoy a slice of avocado toast every now and then.
Speaking to 60 Minutes in Australia, Tim Gurner said: "When I was trying to buy my first home, I wasn't buying smashed avocado for $19 and four coffees at $4 each. We're at a point now where the expectations of younger people are very, very high."
3. Pinterest mania
Avocado has gone above and beyond any other ingredient out there, becoming the most pinned food on social networking site, Pinterest.
In fact, avocado was featured in two of the top pins of 2015, with avocado egg bake claiming the prize for the pin most often looked at, with avocado hummus following close behind.
4. That tattoo
Wild child Miley Cyrus loves an edgy tattoo: she's covered with over 20, including an alien head, evil eye and an animal tooth. But her latest body art is rather tamer - a tiny avocado on her arm.
The rock and roll stars of yore must be turning in their graves.
5. Avocado beer
A brewery in Los Angeles makes an ale "brewed with avocados straight from our brewer Dieter's grandmother's avocado ranch". Apparently, a local food writer called the beer "subtle" and with a "creamy finish." We've got some other words for it.
6. "Avo toast"
Can everyone stop calling it that? We're looking at you, Instagrammers.
7. Donald Trump lost a popularity contest to one
In 2015, when Twitter users were asked if they'd rather have Donald Trump or an avocado as president, the avocado won. By ten times.
Considering he's not sitting in the White House, Trump clearly got the last laugh.
8. Guacamolegate
When the New York Times suggested pimping up everyone's favourite avocado dip with peas, America went bonkers. Actually, properly bonkers. People threatened to cancel their subscriptions, one reader compared the newspaper to Isil, and even Barack Obama weighed in.
9. The subscription box
If you roll your eyes at people who get veg boxes, prepare yourself for the Avocado of the Month Club. That's right - in the US, you can pay $40 a month to have three pounds of avocados delivered straight to your door.
