Nigella, of course, has form when it comes to upsetting food purists (and people who take this sort of thing far too seriously). Here, we run through her most controversial food moments and recipes.
Caesar salad
We know Nigella likes to rip up the rule book, but this was just weird. On her TV show in 2015, Simply Nigella, she baked half an iceberg lettuce, placed a fried egg on top, sprinkled it with anchovies and served it with a piece of toast.
No chicken, no croutons, no fancy dressing. We're not sure what it was, but it almost certainly wasn't a caesar salad.
Spaghetti with Marmite
Love it or hate it, Marmite should not be paired with anything but a slice of toast. But in a recipe that has been part of her repertoire since 2009, Nigella starts by melting the yeast extract with a large slab of butter, before serving her disturbing sauce over fresh spaghetti.
She claims she is yet to find a child who doesn't like it. I'm pretty sure we could find a few.
Cup of tea
Shock horror - Nigella keeps the teabag in. While she pours in the milk, and while she drinks it, Nigella leaves those tea leaves stewing. Some were disgusted, others approved. This is a contentious subject, without Nigella's input.
Last year, Nigella admited to drinking 12 cups of tea a day, so she probably knows how she likes her brew by now.
Pig foetus
Not a recipe, admittedly (and thankfully), but rather a barmy culinary moment in the life of Nigella. American chef Anthony Bourdain relayed a story in 2012 about a meal he had shared with Nigella and some other guests who were attempting to outdo each other with their most daring culinary exploits.
Up popped Nigella, simultaneously raising the bar and lowering the tone with the claim that she had once eaten an aborted pig's foetus.
Lawson's representatives claimed she was simply relaying a culinary practice she had heard about. We'll take her word for it, just this once.
Avocado on toast
Back in November 2015, this recipe broke the nation. Our hearts could not take it - Nigella, you pushed us too far. Bringing all of her culinary skills to BEAR, Nigella sought to explain to us all the correct way to scoop out an avocado, mash it up and then chuck it on nearly burnt bread.
Real Michelin-star stuff, right there.
