Brunch at The Store:
After allowing yourself a little lie-in, pick up the Sunday papers and grab a table outside at this chilled out artisan bakery. The all-day dining menu dishes up something a bit different from your standard breakfast fare. The rancher eggs with a corn tortilla, queso fresco, black beans and fried eggs are my pick. My plus one enjoys the poached eggs with caramelized cauliflower, almonds, raisins and capers. The service is friendly and the lattes are perfection.
Fun and games at Metrolanes Bowling:
I'm terrible at bowling, but I don't mind losing. Which also pleases the competitive Manfriend. There's something about tinpin bowling that feels silly and retro, but that's what makes it such a lark. After a couple of rounds, we get stuck in to the arcade games. Air hockey and fusball are my areas of expertise.
Best hotdogs ever from Food Truck Garage:
These guys are serving up the very best dangin' hotdog I've ever had. Plus it's all healthy alternatives to take-out. It pays to pop in just before the noon rush so you can secure a table inside the popular eatery. The Manfriend and I tuck in to a couple of papple dogs - a spelt flour roll packed with pork, staranise, apple and pickled fennel and watercress. Share a bowl of the baked chips and a couple of the natural house made sodas. I promise you won't regret it.
A Sunday sipple at Sale Street:
It's the weekend, so the Manfriend and I aren't feeling guilty about a post lunch sipple. On the walk home to Ponsonby, we stop in at Sale Street for a couple of beers brewed on site. The big courtyard is doused in sunshine when Auckland skies are cloud-free. Perfect for people watching your Sunday afternoon away.
