Newlyweds miss honeymoon after fight at airport

The honeymoon period went by fast for these newlyweds - in fact, it barely even got started.

Darren Stanway and his new wife Nadia kicked off their honeymoon celebrations early. They had been drinking wine and beer and, in the taxi on their way to the airport, things started going wrong.

The British couple arrived at the airport late for their flight to Malta and, according to The Sun, airport staff believed Mrs Stanway was less than pleased about her drunken husband's reportedly violent behaviour.

"Stupid b*tch - it's all your fault," they heard him shout.

Authorities approached the man after witnessing his drunken antics once he'd headed to the airport bar.

"I'm going to f***ing sit here and drink my f***ing beer - I know I'm in control of my f***ing behaviour," he reportedly told police.

The man was charged with public disorder and his wife was issued a fine.

They missed their flight and had to catch a later one.

When he faced court, Stanway told the judge his new wife had consumed three bottles of wine during the cab ride to the airport.

The man had previous convictions for public order offences.

He admitted using threatening behaviour and received a NZ$460 fine. He was also ordered to pay court costs and pay a victim surcharge.
