1. Antipodes Hallelujah Lime & Patchouli Cleanser
$38 for 200ml
Naturopath Elizabeth Barbalich went looking for hydrating skincare with effective natural plant ingredients and beautiful fragrances that would look good in her bathroom.
She couldn't find what she wanted, so created her own small range. They use New Zealand avocado oil plus fragrances from a French perfumer. If you don't have oily skin you can't go wrong with this beautiful range. This cleanser also has patchouli, kawakawa and citrus essential oils. You are told to apply it rhythmically, whatever that means.
From selected department stores, pharmacies and health stores.
2. Olive Sun Protection Face Cream SPF30
$18.90 for 150ml
The Simunovich family has been growing olives for more than 200 years. They started on the Croatian island of Brac and continued in the Bombay Hills. As well as selling the oil and running the fancy restaurant Bracu, nestled in the olive groves, they're also serious about olive oil-based skincare. This water-resistant UVA and UVB sunscreen comes with extra-virgin olive oil to keep the skin well moisturised.
From selected department stores, pharmacies and gift stores.
3. Living Nature Eye Makeup Remover
$25 for 100ml
Living Nature is a success story. From the start in 1987, Suzanne Hall was determined to create a skincare and cosmetics line using New Zealand plants, honey and clay and keep them free of synthetic preservatives. She uses manuka oil as the main preservative. This kumerahou and manuka honey eye makeup remover does a great job. Great new packaging, too.
From selected pharmacies and health stores.
4. Trilogy Ultra Hydrating Masque
$32.90 for 75ml
Trilogy has a big following. This range is based on rosehip oil because its ultra-fine oil is easily absorbed, moisturises, helps to cope with those fine lines and encourages the skin to repair itself. The concept is that pure plant ingredients are good for you. This hydrating mask gives dry skin a much-needed boost. As well as rosehip, it has lavender, evening primrose, coconut and avocado oils plus manuka honey.
From selected department stores, pharmacies and health stores.
5. Southern Islands Seaweed Body Mask
$18.99 for 350g
Another from the land of clean and green. This is a clay-based kelp treatment that deep-cleans skin and helps clear up blemishes. Also great for getting skin ready for a fake tan. This is one where you really do feel you've got a spa thing going on in the bathroom.
From selected pharmacies.
