New video has emerged of the royals at Prince Charles' 70th birthday party — an event that is back in the headlines after a bombshell claim in a new book.
The garden party for the future king took place just three days after the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in 2018 and the newlyweds joined Prince Charles and Camilla and 6000 representatives from charities associated with the royal.
The shindig has made headlines in recent days thanks to a new book from Lady Colin Campbell titled Meghan and Harry: The Real Story.
In the book, Lady Campbell claims that she heard from "a scion of the aristocracy with impeccable palace connections" that Meghan did something at the event that left royal insiders "absolutely gobsmacked and astonished".
"She charmed everyone," Lady Campbell writes about Meghan at the event in the book. "Fifteen minutes into the event, she turned to Harry and said, 'Harry, this is really boring. Let's leave'. To his credit, he informed her that they would have to stay. 'But Harry,' she said, 'this is so boring. We've done our bit. Everyone knows we've been here. Let's go.' Harry asserted that they had to stay, and they moved on."
If true, it would a highly damaging revelation about the duchess whose arrival on the British scene was met with excitement by the vast proportion of a thrilled population.
But new video from the event, which has been analysed by a lip-reader, seemingly casts doubt on the claim.
The video clip shows Prince Harry being summoned by Prince Charles for a chat just moments before he and Meghan leave the soiree.
It had been suggested that Harry and Charles' exchange was tense, but that's been debunked by a lip-reading expert who told The Daily Mail there wasn't any hostility between the father and son.
According to the expert, Prince Charles said to Prince Harry: "We are going now, We have to leave."
Prince Harry nodded before allegedly replying: "You go ahead."
"We will go now ... see you later," Prince Charles added.
"Yes, catch up ... after," Prince Harry told him.
In the book, Lady Campbell claims Meghan's "desire to bolt" was a talking point in royal circles for days afterwards.
