You know we're not in a healthy state when we are eating more bread than fresh fruit, cheese is the most frequently consumed protein, and biscuits, chocolate, lollies and soft drinks are consumed twice as much as fresh fish.
I think it reflects that our diets contain a lot of processed food, and not enough fresh food.
This has been a rising trend, and is likely to be a result of people having less time at home to cook, the loss of cooking skills, and the rising cost of fresh food.
I believe we need to emphasise what we should be eating: if you focus on ensuring you have at least five serves of vegetables, two serves of fruit, one to two serves of healthy protein, and four to five serves of healthy grains or carbohydrates every day to get all the nutrients you need, it leaves little room for the not-so-nutritious foods.
Focus on building these habits, instead of being controlled by the number on the bathroom scales.
