Uma Thurman as a baddie-fighting vixen in a tight outfit and knee-high boots? It's not such a stretch of the imagination to accept her as a cartoon-ish character. She practically was one in Kill Bill. The only difference with "G-Girl" is she gets to play geeky, crazy and sexy in one.
When she's not quelling raging fires, stopping jewel thieves or dealing to killer meteors, G-Girl, aka Jenny, works part-time in an art gallery - only she's more neurotic than Clark Kent. One day she meets architect Matt (Luke Wilson) on the subway, and before you know it, they're consummating their relationship by joining the outdoor Mile-High Club.
It's soon apparent why there's an "ex" in the title. Matt is secretly in love with his workmate Hannah, and when Jenny finds out she terrorises him. One of her ploys includes a particularly funny threat involving a marine animal in an absurd setting.
This film is a silly version of Fatal Attraction that sends up the love triangle storylines of hero flicks and tests our limits of what's funny and what's ridiculous.
Yes, that means it's full of stereotypes and corny jokes - the horny but repulsive-to-women best friend, Vaughn, (Rainn Wilson) the no-nonsense black boss (Wanda Sykes) who constantly threatens Matt with sexual harassment lawsuits and the cute love interest (Anna Faris) with the tendency for expressing shock with one facial expression.
Although Thurman and Wilson have a chemistry that really only comes alive when they're arguing, there's something strangely adorable about the brooding guy playing the ordinary bloke with the extraordinary problem. Only British comedian Eddie Izzard, who you'd expect would make a great villain, fails to inject his Professor Bedlam with enough venom - although he's also the one who seems to get stuck with the film's awkward lines. You'll be able to guess how the story ends from the halfway mark but it's a fun and harmless journey.
Verdict: Silly but harmless comedy in which Uma Thurman flexes her flair for psychotic spells
