In the first of a summer series, Weekend asked celebrities what is their favourite icecream or milkshake. First up, Anna Coddington gives the scoop on her predilection for no-nonsense classics.
There are many fancy, fancy icecream flavours around these days. People are putting any crazy thing into icecream and calling it gourmet. Any fruit, any nut, biscuits, beer, bacon — anything goes mate. And salted caramel — don't forget that bourgie must-have.
But the classics have lasted decades for a reason, and you'll find them in any dairy still serving rolled icecream — a service that is being pushed out by the Magnums and Memphis Meltdowns of this world. Bless the dairy owners who still opt to make up an icecream specifically for you, with your chosen flavours. Even more blessings to the ones who will let you get two flavours out of the one scoop option. Two delicious baubles of cold sweetness, balancing carefully at first, then merging together and creeping down to fill the cone, because no one wants that last bit of the cone if the icecream hasn't made it down that far.
For me those two flavours will be orange choc chip and cookies and cream. Worked for me when I was 10 and if it ain't broke, don't put salt or bacon or beer in it and charge me double.
