A mother has gone viral with an incredible simple, yet genius, hack that will save you a lot of money on dishwashing.

People on social media are wondering how they hadn't thought of this before, after a mother shared how she has slashed the cost of running her dishwasher.

With so many different expenses associated with running a household, especially now with the added costs of sending children back to school, parents are looking wherever they can for how to stick to the budget.

An Aussie mum has started attacking her dishwashing tablets with a knife in order to slash costs.

The mum, who runs an Instagram account focused on all things thrifty, says cutting the dishwashing tablets in half does not affect how clean the dishes come out.

Other parents are applauding the mum's resourcefulness.

"Interesting. I had never thought about doing this before but it kind of makes sense especially if the halves do just as good a job," someone commented.

"Omg never thought of this, I have 2 of those stupid dish draws that do half a load each. Always complain that I pay double cause I use 2 tablets to do 1 tablet's worth of a load," someone else said.
