KEY POINTS:
Life is all about creating something beautiful for Rosey Feltham, who has worked as everything from a costume designer to a pattern maker, dancer and choreographer.
The Aucklander has had an interest in fashion all her life, first learning from her grandmother to sew and create clothes. Her love of fashion led to a job as production manager at the now-defunct label Susan Scarf, and she currently works as a pattern maker at Paula Ryan.
Feltham is also a trained dancer, and in 2005 co-founded dance company BackLit Productions, for which she also designs costumes and directs.
Her latest venture with the dance company is The Story of Stuff, a performance inspired by Noam Chomsky's lecture of the same name.
The Story of Stuff will be held at the Concert Chamber at the Auckland Town Hall from October 1 until October 4 - for tickets, visit www.the-edge.co.nz.
Who are your favourite designers?
Issey Miyake, Vivienne Westwood and John Galliano.
What was the last item of clothing you bought?
A silk tunic/dress from People's Square in Shanghai.
The movie/play with the best costumes is?
Our new show The Story of Stuff, of course!
Who or what inspires you?
Neon signs, dancing toy dogs, dark twisted contorted movement with heels on, rolls of coral pink raw silk, rubber flower swim caps, oversized headpieces and the six stunning dancers I dance with in BackLit Productions.
Your favourite shops?
Skylark, Girl Boutique, Made, Ruby, Superette and Area 51.
What is your beauty routine?
Usually each week it is two contemporary technique classes, a yoga class, a ballet class and a weights class at the gym, but at the moment just dance rehearsals - about 20 hours a week of them.
Is there anything you'd never wear?
I would like to think I would never wear my ugg boots out of the house but I may have done this - just once or twice.
What won't you be wearing this season?
Have you ever tried wearing every item of clothing you own all at once? I tried this as part of a workshop for our show and looked like a greedy clothing yeti - definitely not the most fashionable silhouette!
If money were no option?
I would have bought this amazing bag in Shanghai Tang. It was this deep inky blue leather with these great big pieces of green jade around the handle, it was very unique and beautiful. However I refused to spend 5500 yuan (NZ$1182) on a handbag and now I am regretting it.
Most cherished item?
When I was 3 years old my great aunt moved out to New Zealand from London. She was a court dressmaker and had impeccable dressmaking talent. For my birthday that year she made me the most beautiful fairy dress which had a green leaf shaped hat and cape to match; it was every young girl's dream outfit. I still have it hanging in my wardrobe today.
Favourite fashion-y movie?
Definitely Zoolander.
Best city for fashion shopping in the world?
I had a lot of fun shopping in China, both in Shanghai and Beijing.
Favourite place to hang out and people-watch?
The premiere/opening night of our show!
Best music for getting dressed to?
Dizzee Rascal's Fix up, Look Sharp.
When I was at high school I wore?
Lacy mesh tunic dresses, black PVC snakeskin pants - which I made myself and loved to death - with my camouflage Doc Martens.
