Mother gives birth to 10lb baby in car during hospital dash

Astonishing footage shows woman in Texas delivering own baby in the front seat of a car as her husband raced her to hospital.

This is the incredible moment a woman gave birth on a motorway while en route to a birthing centre in Houston, Texas.

The entire birth from start to finish was captured on a GoPro camera on the driver's lap.

The footage shows the mother-to-be breathing through contractions and screaming in pain as she realises she can wait no longer to push the baby out.

Gasping to her partner to release her seatbelt and pull down her leggings, the woman delivers the baby herself in the passenger seat of the car as the couple drive along the highway.

According to the clip caption, posted on YouTube, the birth happened while the couple were travelling along Beltway 8 to the Bay Area Birthing Center.

"Oh my goodness, it's a boy," she exclaims as they pull over at a petrol station.

The man can be heard advising her to tap the baby on the back to make sure its airways are clear: "If he's crying, he's breathing, but hold him upside down, babe. Hold him upside down and pat him on the booty," he tells her.

"Oh my gosh we just had a baby ... He came out right in the car! Oh my God. You're beautiful! Oh my goodness!," the shocked mother says, shaking with emotion.

As they drive off again, the man jokes: "So I wonder if we still have to pay for using the birth centre?"
