James Spader plays a burned-out FBI agent who moves from Los Angeles to Chicago to clear his head. Gruesome murders start mounting in his new neighbourhood and the pattern fits that of an elusive killer (Keanu Reeves) he knows only too well. The killer taunts him by sending photographs of his intended victims. A predictable plot, lifted by the well-known cast. (2000)

Steven Spielberg's World War II shoot-'em-up is cleverly disguised as a heartfelt and accurate depiction of war. The opening beach assault sequences are realistic and upsetting, resembling actual combat footage. But this is no Schindler's List and it soon gives way to emotional manipulation and flag-waving. (1998)
