By MARGARET MAHY
"Horrakapotchkin!" cried the magician. Pointing the bottle at the tree, he shook it violently and pulled out the cork, showering the branches above. The fire sizzled out, though the leaves turned from green to blue. "Jinkie Jensen-Jones," he cried in a cross voice. "You are the nosiest girl in the world!"
"I'm sorry, but I like being nosy," cried Jinkie, from the middle of the scones.
"OK, then! You shall stay nosy - too nosy," declared the magician, twiddling his twiddlers at her.
As he spoke, Jinkie's face began itching madly. Something like a long, freckled beak suddenly stuck out in front of her face. It was her nose, now much longer and nosier than any other nose in town. Jinkie had become a true quizzybeak.
