Meghan Markle's gift to Kate Middleton after royal wedding spat

Meghan Markle reportedly gave Kate Middleton a piece of jewellery after the pair fell out in the lead up to her 2018 royal wedding.

The Duchess of Sussex, 40, gave the Duchess of Cambridge, 39, a gold bracelet as "an elegant peace offering" after the highly-publicised argument over bridesmaid dresses, royal biographer Andrew Morton claims in his updated book, Meghan: A Hollywood Princess.

"Meghan had since given Kate and her six closest friends gold bracelets designed by Californian jeweller Lisette Polny as a thankyou for their help and support," Morton writes.

Reports splashed across tabloids in the days prior to Meghan and Prince Harry's wedding that the former actress made Kate cry during a bridesmaid dress fitting involving Kate's daughter, Princess Charlotte.

Two years later, Meghan broke her silence in a televised interview with Oprah Winfrey in March this year, saying the reports were untrue and it was actually Kate who made her cry.

"The narrative with Kate, which didn't happen, that's when everything changed," Meghan told Oprah. "She was upset about something, she apologised, she owned it.

"She was upset about something, about the flower girl dresses and it made me cry and it really hurt my feelings."

Meghan added that Kate sent her flowers after the incident and apologised.

"There wasn't a confrontation and I don't think it's fair to her to get into the details of that because she apologised, and I have forgiven her," Meghan added in the interview.

"What was hard to get over was being blamed for something that not only I didn't do, but that happened to me."

The duchess also said that she became disheartened when Kensington Palace refused to correct reports about the fight when they surfaced, in what proved to be a bombshell wide-ranging interview about her and Harry's disappointment with the institution.

Kate has not addressed the comments Meghan made in her interview with Oprah, however, sources suggested she was "mortified" and "not in a position to respond".

Meghan and Harry now live in California, US, after stepping back as senior members of the royal family in March 2020.
