Terry Pratchett, the Man in Black of the bestseller lists, won last year's Carnegie Medal (for children's fiction) for The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents (out here next month), and has a huge adult following for his cult fantasy Discworld series. He's the third-bestselling author of the decade in Britain, and the country's "most shoplifted author".
In New Zealand next month to promote his fat new book Night Watch - the 27th in the Discworld series - the New Zealand Herald and Dymocks are hosting a new kind of meet-the-author event in Pratchett's honour. Called "Sundowner", it's being held on November 14, 6pm to 7.30pm, at the Concert Chamber, Town Hall. Tickets $15 with a complementary drink on arrival.
