A man's fake proposal has been labelled "horrible" and "unacceptable" after it went viral online – but his girlfriend of six years says there is more to the story.
In a TikTok video posted by Canadian woman Hannah Luck that has since been viewed more than 1.3 million times, Hannah's boyfriend can be seen getting out a jewellery box.
Luck sobs and appears overcome with emotion as her boyfriend says: "I love you so much, it's been six years."
He then kneels before slowly opening the box and asking: "Will you please take these earrings?"
Luck stops crying and replies "I knew", appearing to take the prank well.
"Six years and he makes a joke like that? Hell no I'd leave him," another commented.
Others gave her advice about what to do with the earrings, one commenting they would "take the earrings and wear them on a date with my new future husband, cause no".
But some defended the prank, saying it was wrong for people to judge their whole relationship off one video.
"It's always the kids who doesn't know anything about relationship who tells other people to break up," one person wrote.
Luck, who revealed her boyfriend is now her fiance after popping the question for real, said she was stunned to see her partner get slammed over the prank.
"I'm still surprised this video got as many views as it did," she said in a follow-up video.
"Also kind of taken aback about how many people really hate my fiance; he's really not a bad person."
Hannah also explained that the couple had pulled pranks on each other for years.
"I posted this because I thought it was funny, our relationship is filled with us playing jokes on each other," she said.
