The Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King, directed by New Zealander Peter Jackson, is nominated in 11 categories at this year's Oscars (awarded March 1 NZ time).
The two previous films in the trilogy based on J R R Tolkien's fantasy classic have already won six Oscars between them, as well as many other awards around the world.
Below is a selection of major awards The Lord Of The Rings films have won.
THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING
- Oscars. 13 nominations, won Best Cinematography, Visual Effects, Make-Up and Original Score.
- BAFTAS. 12 nominations, won Best Film, Visual Effects, Make-Up/Hair and Best Director, as well as Audience Award.
- AFI Awards. Four nominations, won Best Movie, Digital Effects and Production Designer.
- Directors Guild Of America. Peter Jackson nominated for Best Director.
- Empire Awards. Seven nominations, won Best Actor (Elijah Wood), Best Debut (Orlando Bloom) and Best Film.
- Golden Globes. Four nominations, no wins.
- MTV Movie Awards. Six nominations, won Best Movie, Breakthrough Performance (Orlando Bloom).
- Screen Actors Guild Awards. Two nominations, Sir Ian McKellen (Gandalf) wins Best Supporting Actor.
THE TWO TOWERS
- Oscars. Six nominations, won Best Sound Editing, Visual Effects.
- BAFTAS. Nine nominations, won Visual Effects, Costume Design and Audience Award.
- Directors Guild Of America. Peter Jackson nominated for Best Director.
AFI Awards. Four nominations, won Best Movie, Digital Effects and Production Designer.
- Empire Awards. Won Best Film.
- Golden Globes. Nominated for Best Director, Best Picture.
- MTV Movie Awards. Five nominations, won Best Movie, best Action Sequence, Best On-Screen Team, Best Virtual Performance.
- Screen Actors Guild Awards. Nominated for Best Cast.
