"I think Mum's finally lost it. She's been acting weird for a month now."
"Since the twins started school?" Vanessa thought for a second. "Is there something I'm missing here? With the baby donkey thing?"
Lacey held the phone away from her ear and said, "Mum's buying one. She's taken the boys out to look at it."
Sure enough, Vanessa squealed loud enough to be heard without the phone. "A baby donkey! You should've phoned me, Lacey. I'd love to see a baby donkey!"
"Sorry," said Lacey, "but seriously, Van - don't you think it's a bit weird? I mean, where's she going to keep it?"
"She might buy a farm too," Vanessa said.
"Funny. Not!" Lacey retorted. I don't want to live in the country, thank you very much!"
She put the phone down. What if Vanessa was right? What if Mum and Dad did freak out and buy a farm" She shook her head. They couldn't. They wouldn't.
