One of the biggest trends over recent years is the growth of the intimate neighbourhood bar; a place to meet friends for a drink and a bite to eat and close enough to be able to walk home.
The Apothecary Eatery in Howick is reminiscent of similar cosy European bars with its moody lighting and vintage-style fit-out. It's both intimate and welcoming with a selection of New Zealand and Spanish wines, and local craft beers. In the kitchen, chef Zebh Carr, who has worked in the United States and in London at Peter Gordon's Providores, turns out tasty small plates and mains. Top favourites include the duck spring rolls and the fish tacos.
The Eatery is connected to the popular cafe next door and when it's busy customers can spread through to the cafe tables and sit among the antiques that are on sale. Eat, drink, shop ... Sounds like the perfect destination.
