World champion stunt rider Chris Pfeiffer battled Auckland weather to wow the crowd with his "One o'clock wheelie" trick in Aotea Square yesterday.
"It was very slippery," said Pfeiffer after his stunt, which involves flinging his legs in front of him while doing a wheelie. "The weather in Auckland is strange. One minute it's like Germany and then 10 minutes later it's like Italy."
Workers from the area were glad Pfeiffer went ahead with the free demonstration. "I thought it was awesome, he's an amazing dude," said James Rigden, who left work to watch the show. "It's a shame the conditions weren't ideal."
Pfeiffer, 36, from Germany, has been riding motorbikes since he was 5. "I love the speed, the balance and creating new tricks," Pfeiffer said. "My favourite trick is the 'no-hands wheelie'."
Pfeiffer is well known in Europe for being the only person to scale the Via Tina, a 45-degree climbing route in Italy. He will be in Auckland for the next three days performing at the Big Boys Toys expo at the ASB Showgrounds.
