LOS ANGELES - The mother of actress Lindsay Lohan called a producer's claim that heavy partying led to her daughter's absence from a movie set, "ridiculous" and "out of line," celebrity television show Access Hollywood has reported.
"The wording was ridiculous," Dina Lane said about a letter in which Morgan Creek Productions' chief executive James Robinson chided the star for her absence from shooting new movie, "Georgia Rule," which his company is producing.
"It is way out of line...I don't know him. I can't judge him. (But) I don't think it was a smart thing to do to a young girl," Lohan's mother told the show in a segment scheduled to air on Monday night.
Last week during a heat wave in southern California where the movie is being filmed, Lohan, 20, was taken to a hospital after being stricken by the heat. She was released after receiving a Vitamin B shot.
At that time, Lohan's representatives said the actress was "overheated and dehydrated," but Robinson thought otherwise.
"We are well aware that your ongoing all night heavy partying is the real reason for your so called 'exhaustion,'" Robinson wrote. He called her behavior "discourteous, irresponsible and unprofessional."
What makes the exchange of words unusual is that typically in Hollywood such a claim of "heavy partying" would be kept between the stars, producers, agents and studio executives. This dispute became public when the letter appeared on the internet, and Morgan Creek confirmed it was genuine.
Lohan got her start as a child actor in the 1990s, and was cast in many Disney films such as "The Parent Trap" and "Freaky Friday." More recently, she starred in comedy "Mean Girls."
