Logan Dodds: My ultimate Auckland day trip

In the third of a five-part series, well-known Aucklanders tell us what their ultimate day trip would look like.

Logan Dodds is a travel blogger, adventurer and Instagrammer (@logan_dodds) who hails from the Hibiscus Coast north of Auckland.

True to his nature, Logan's ultimate day trip would be packed with adrenalin and the hunt for some breathtaking moments.

1. Sunrise with Mum

A good place to start would be to watch the sunrise at Big Manly Beach.

Shoot up to my mum's house on the Hibiscus Coast, to watch the sunrise at Big Manly Beach.

It's one of my favourite places to see the sun come up, plus Mum does a pretty mean bacon and eggs.

2. Steak & Cheese at Red Beach

Next up a coffee with friends at Red Beach Bakery, who also make a mean steak & cheese pie.

Then I'd grab Dani [Logan's girlfriend] and a few other mates to head over to Red Beach Bakery for a coffee.

I'd probably treat myself to a steak & cheese pie if I've had a workout that morning.

It's a bit of a detour, but the pies are worth it.

3. Skydiving at Parakai

To really get the day going, Logan heads to Parakai, north of Auckland, for a cheeky 5000m skydive.

The next stop would be to call into Parakai, north of Auckland, for a cheeky skydive. Auckland can really turn it on during summer, and there's nothing like throwing yourself out of a plane at 5,000 metres on a sunny day.

4. Sunset at Anawhata

Sunset and a barbie at Anawhata seals an epic day.

We would head out to Bountiful Earth in Swanson for a late lunch burger, then continue on to Anawhata for sunset and a barbie on the beach. The winding gravel roads are pretty fun to drive in a Focus, and West Auckland has some of the most epic sunsets in the world. Amazing.

Summer reggae

Don't forget your roots, my friend ... A classic Auckland road trip has the sun out in full force, the windows down, hands waving in the air currents, and some Six60 summer anthems blasting away.

Obviously being a classic Auckland roadie, the sun would be out in full force, windows down, hands waving in the air currents out the window, and some Six60 tunes blasting through the SYNC 3 entertainment system.

Nothing says "roadie" like Six60 - these boys know how to throw down a Kiwi summer anthem. "Don't forget your roots, my friend ..."
