Having fun while keeping fit is the main objective for Keep On Your Feet exercise classes for the elderly.
Keep On Your Feet is a nationwide initiative funded by ACC to help prevent falls in older adults. And with more than 20 per cent of Tauranga's population over 65, there's no shortage of interest.
"Currently throughout the Eastern and Western Bay of Plenty we've got nearly 20 classes up and running," said Project Leader Jen Riley.
"That means nearly 500 people are coming along to classes. Our ultimate goal is to have 78 classes a week running by the end of 2019."
Local instructor Diana Bomford said the classes are great for all ages. Her eldest is 95 years old.
"We start with a warm-up, some cardio, some strength - quite a lot of strength - and balance exercises. We then do a bit of a warm-down."
