About 700 Def Leppard fans received refunds after an unusually quiet concert by the heavy metal band at the Oregon State Fair.
The city's noise ordinance forced the band to play at what many fans thought was an unsatisfactory level to meet the concerns of neighbours.
Aggrieved fans yelled for the volume to be turned up.
"You could barely hear the lead guitar," said one.
The band and the fair shared a loss of $US14,000 ($39,000) after the $US20 tickets were refunded.
