Rocker Lenny Kravitz has signed on to play Jimi Hendrix in a biopic about the legendary guitarist's life, according to news reports.

The movie is being produced by Elle Von Lear, a longtime Hendrix family friend, who says the movie will use the original recording and expose new details about the 1970 London death of the guitar virtuoso and counter-culture hero.
