By LEMONY SNICKET
The doorman had in fact taken this job in the lobby of the building containing our offices with the hope of getting his diary published as a book. Whenever people from the publishing house entered the building, the doorman would greet them with a smile and a handshake, and while he was shaking their hand he would slip a few pages from his diary into their hands, hoping that they would read the selection and change him from a doorman into an author. One morning, I looked down at the crumpled and charcoal-stained pages that the doorman had given me, and one word caught my eye: SNICKET.
