An Australian commercial diver who is tired of getting his feet wet while "slipping and sliding all over the boat ramp" has developed a new boat-launching device called Boatcatch.
Greg Staples describes his invention as a unique coupling device that improves the way trailer boats are launched and retrieved.
"Boatcatch allows skippers to quickly and efficiently transfer their boat off and on to its trailer without setting foot on the ramp," he says.
"Boatcatch also reduces the danger and wasted time inherent in traditional launch and retrieval methods.
"Instead, skippers can quickly motor off and on - and eliminate the stress of holding up other boats."
Boatcatch is made from 100 per cent marine-grade stainless steel and is described by Staples as being incredibly strong and robust.
He says there are only three moving parts, so the device requires little maintenance. Being highly polished, Boatcatch can also be an attractive accessory on trailer boats.
"More importantly, this innovative product should give any skipper the confidence to launch and retrieve from the comfort of their cabin or helm station, especially if they are on their own."
Boatcatch is distributed in New Zealand by Gary and Tonka Watson of Terminator Boats. It is available in two sizes (small for boats up to 6m long and large for boats longer than 6m). The smaller size costs $795 while the larger unit is $995. Both come with a universal mounting bracket and a lifetime warranty.
