Meghan Markle has announced that the release of her new Netflix show has been delayed amid the devastation wreaked by wildfires in Los Angeles.
The Duchess of Sussex was set to release her cooking and lifestyle showWith Love, Meghan on January 15, but this has now been delayed to March 4.
Markle shared a statement on Sunday local time, which read: “I’m thankful to my partners at Netflix for supporting me in delaying the launch, as we focus on the needs of those impacted by the wildfires in my home state of California.”
It comes after Markle and her husband Prince Harry were seen meeting with those who have lost their homes or loved ones in the wildfires, visiting the Pasadena Convention Centre last week to hand out food and other supplies.
The couple met with local Pasadena Mayor Victor Gordo and paid tribute to emergency staff for their response to the fires, in which 16 people have lost their lives so far.
Earlier, the pair shared a statement and encouraged others to open their homes to those affected, writing: “In the last few days, wildfires in Southern California have raged through neighbourhoods and devastated families, homes, schools, medical care centres, and so much more – affecting tens of thousands from all walks of life.
“If a friend, loved one, or pet has to evacuate, and you can offer them a safe haven in your home, please do.”
Harry and Meghan have reportedly given several friends a place to stay in their 16-bedroom home in Montecito.
It comes after PR experts raised questions over the release of Markle’s Netflix series, suggesting it would be “insensitive” to air it amid the disaster.
British brand and culture expert Nick Ede earlier told the Daily Mail that Netflix staff would have to make some “big decisions” about whether to air the show.
“With the show being so centred on California life, Los Angeles and Montecito, providing a glimpse into aspirational and inspirational living, I suspect it will be pulled from its current schedule and delayed for at least a few months.”
With Love, Meghan promises to share “practical how-to’s”, “personal tips and tricks” and “candid conversation with friends” with viewers.
