Three New Zealand hot sauce companies can now claim to be World Champions after beating out entries from around the globe in the 2015 World Hot Sauce Awards.
Northland's Fire Dragon Chillies took out the World Champion title in the 'Ultra Hot' category for the second year running for their Dragons Fury sauce. Touted as New Zealand's hottest natural chilli sauce, it is made with a mix of chilli varieties all grown locally in the Hokianga.
Auckland-based Culley's claimed the World Championship in the 'Hot' category for their original recipe Bhut Jolokia sauce, as well as placing second in the Ketchup division for their Chipotle Ketchup.
Wellington's Huffman's Hot Sauce claimed the World Champion title in the 'Pepper Blend' category with their Chilli Pepper Hot Sauce.
Rounding out New Zealand's haul at the awards were Titirangi's Gringo Killer, who placed second in the 'Chipotle Style' category with their Wood Smoked Bhutt Burn Chilli Sauce, and Auckland's HOTttASs Chillies, whose Pacific Burn - a mango and coconut chilli sauce - won third place in the 'Fruit-based' category.
