Ubisoft, a major publisher of video games, says a new game it is developing for PlayStation users - based on Peter Jackson's King Kong movie due for release on December 17 - has already won an award at a games convention in Germany.
The prize was awarded by a panel of six leading media specialists at the Leipzig convention, Europe's biggest games fair with more than 134,000 visitors and 280 exhibitors.
The jury said the game - to be marketed as Peter Jackson's King Kong - showed how an intense game environment could be created when a game designer and movie director collaborated on a video game, said Alain Corre, Ubisoft's executive director for Europe, Middle East and Africa.
Corre said that the jury said the action adventure game transported players inside the movie, and commented: "The world in which King Kong lives seems so real and enthralling that players will do everything they can to survive".
Ubisoft earned revenue of 538 million ($969 million) in 2004-2005.
