She's often slammed for being famous for no real reason. But a new photoshoot of Kim Kardashian channeling former First Lady Jackie Kennedy has sparked the ire of the internet with commentators apalled that the reality TV star be compared to the political icon.
Plugged on the cover of Interview magazine as "America's new First Lady", Kim poses with daughter North, aged four, wearing long white gloves, pearls and with her hair styled in an exaggerated bob reminiscent of Jackie's 'do.
After photos were shared online, followers commented sharing their disdain for the images.
One person wrote: "She will never be a Jackie ... I'm over her fake ass lol over rated ... let's focus on what's happening in the real world now. Tell her to go and help those who are in need now (TEXAS)."
And another reacted with: "No we are not elevating Kim Kardashian to the elegant and classic Jackie O. Both are iconic but in completely separate ways. This is shameful to Jackie's legacy."
Others were confused by the comparison to the former First Lady: "Omg why? Jackie O was grace and classy and Kim k is totally not," wrote one person.
"So Jackie Onassis and Kim Kardashian are equivalent? Let me know when beauty kits and being a world class leader mesh in the same category. Bold move," posted another.
One of those who replied to Kim's original tweet gushing about how special she thinks the photos are pulled no punches.
"This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen," she tweeted.
"Jackie O turning over in her damn grave right now," another Twitter user chimed in.
Despite the backlash, the interview does serve as a revealing platform for the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star.
When her interviewer - trans rights activist Janet Mock - asks her about raising a "mixed black girl" Kim commented: "I'm very conscious of it. Kanye always has his family around and people who look like my daughter-that's important to me.
"She's obsessed with her curly hair, and if she finds someone who has the same hair, she runs to them and is like, 'You have curly hair like me?' And we get to talk about it."
She added: "We also talk about it with my niece Penelope, because she and North look really different, but they're best friends and they're together all the time."
On Monday Kim took to Instagram to talk about her new spread.
"Just wanted to thank @stevenkleinstudio for pushing me to do a shoot that was very different & powerful & allowed me to pay homage to the iconic Jackie Kennedy who I admire & respect!" the star wrote in her caption.
