On the wide pavement, tourists stood and stared and took photographs.

Sometimes a tourist would stand next to Webley while his wife took his photograph with Webley and Fred beside him. The tourist would smile and Fred would look blank. But Webley would cross his eyes, drop his ears out sideways and hang his tongue out. Back in Japan, his photo would be shown and everyone would shriek with laughter, and the tourist would be rather cross.
