They took their ponies and tied them to the hedge and settled down to eat their sandwiches while the jump-off took place. Most of the ponies had come in horseboxes and Lunar would be taken home in the vast lorry belonging to the Whitemarket Equestrian Cen
tre. This place was only a mile down the road, opposite the farm where Lauren lived. Tashy lived in the village, but kept Monkey at Lauren's with Humpfrey.
It was a warm summer day and the sandwiches were good (tuna and tomato) and Lauren and Tashy soon cheered up.
"After all, I wouldn't want to ride like Shona does," Lauren said. "Round and round that manege every day, getting shouted at by Horrid Hector."
Horrid Hector was really Mr H. Harbottle, chief instructor at Whitemarket. Shona had a lesson every day after school.
