Tama knew he was a good flyer even though Gran said he was too flashy. "Tama, that's enough!" Mum yelled, glaring at him.
Tama dived between his mother and sister with an impressive whooshing sound, then he levelled out, reluctantly, and fell back into formation beside Kiri, "It's not fair," he grumbled. "Flap-flap-glide, flap-flap-glide ... bo-o-o-r-r-r-ing."
As they cleared a hilltop the dump unfolded beneath them. An enticing yoghurty aroma wafted up to Kiri's nostrils from the black rubbish bags baking in the hot sun.
She could see Dad and Gran below, waving. "OK, kids," said Mum, "final approach ... wings out, tails spread, feet down, beaks up - in we go!"
Tama tucked himself into a stylish dive, then thought better of it when he caught his mother's eye.
When they landed, Dad and Gran hopped across the bare earth floor of the dump to meet them. "There you are," said Dad.
"Come on, you don't want your yoghurt getting hot."
