Although she loved her parents very much, Katrina O'Brien had recently begun to realise that, in certain ways, her mum and dad were really rather strange. For example, while most parents like a bit of tidiness around the place, Mr and Mrs O'Brien were obsessed with it. Their house wasn't so much a home as a museum where everything was neat, folded and dust-free, pets were banned and friends rarely visited for fear of being told not to make a mess.
"Don't drip on the bath mat," Mrs O'Brien would shout when Katrina was cleanign her teeth in the morning. "Take your shoes off at the door," Mr O'Brien would call out when she returned from school.
"Goodnight, sleep tight – and don't make too many creases in the duvet," Mrs O'Brien would say when she went to bed.
Tomorrow: Excitement and special letters!
