"What about the carpet dear?" said Mr O'Brien. "It'll be littered with" -- he shuddered -- "plucked eyebrows."

"No gain without pain," said Mrs O'Brien, rummaging inside the household utilities bag that was never far from her, and taking out a pair of tweezers and a handkerchief. "I'll pluck and you catch," she said, giving the handkerchief to Mr O'Brien.

"Then we'll go out and buy our little model some clothes for her audition."

Katrina decided to try once more. "What about my supper?"
