Author: Fleur Beale
Publisher: Shortland Publications $8.95
Age Group: 9-12 years
Important facts about me: James Harris.
1. I hate being called Jemmy.
2. I'm twelve years old.
3. I can't spell for peanuts and this drives my grandfather (I call him "Pa") wild.
4. I'm into skateboarding, and that drives him wild, too. He's into rugby, hunting, fishing, cricket and spelling.
5. I'm skinny and short for my age. I have brown hair and brown eyes. My mum is always telling me that I'm going to start growing soon, but I'm still small enough to climb out of the small window in my bedroom whenever Pa comes over and starts on about how he wants to take me to some rugby game, or phones up and asks me to come and watch the crick
et with him.
6. My mother is cool. She's a computer expert and she often goes away to conferences and stuff. The downside of that is she always wants me to stay with Pa and Gran and I always want to stay with one of my friends. We usually make a deal so that she gets her way 90 per cent of the time and I get my way about 10 per cent, or at least that's what it feels like. I moaned so much that she wrote it all down and it turned out I got my way 55 per cent of the time and she got her way 45 per cent.
