She shook her head again and then brightened up a bit. "I'll tell you what I'm going to do, class. I'm going to put you all in pairs. Belinda, my dear, I think it would be a nice idea for you and Joe to work together. I'm sure you'll both enjoy that!" Mrs Robinson beamed very broadly.
"Aw, gee," said Joe, "that's not fair."
"No, it's not," agreed Belinda.
"Yes it is," said Mrs Robinson, and her beam became a wide grin. "Yes. I want all of you in pairs and I think I just might let you - apart from Joe and Belinda of course - choose with whom to work ..."
"Choose with whom to work," said Joe, mimicking Mrs Robinson who ignored him.
"I want all of you to get to know one of our elderly citizens. There's just so much we can learn from them," she repeated. "Find out their thoughts and feelings about life today. Most importantly, class, find out the changes they have seen in our town. What was life really like for them in those far-off, rugged pioneer days with no washing machines and no television, jet planes or videos? So, what questions can we ask them?
