Singer-songwriter Kelly Clarkson has cancelled her New Zealand shows because of strain on her vocal chords.
The first American Idol, and the only Idol winner so far to go on to international stardom, Clarkson was to perform in Christchurch on Sunday and Auckland on Tuesday.
But today concert promoter Andrew McManus said doctors had advised Clarkson to take immediate rest for the next five to 10 days and to minimise the use of her vocal chords.
She had sought medical attention after experiencing strain on her vocal chords while performing in Australia.
"Ms Clarkson is said to be upset by this unavoidable cancellation and sincerely regrets not being able to visit New Zealand to fulfil the two concerts.
"Ms Clarkson wishes to assure her fans that a visit to New Zealand will be a priority at the earliest opportunity and apologises to her loyal fans for any disappointment caused."
Ticket refunds were available from Ticketek outlets.
