KEY POINTS:
New Zealand fashion could be heading to Hollywood thanks to celebrity stylist Britt Bardo, who is eyeing the runways of Fashion Week for inspiration.
Only two days in, Bardo said she was impressed by New Zealand designers and had definitely seen some items to take home for both her clients and herself.
"Cybele was great. A lot of things would be great for a handful of my clients. Personally, for myself, I really enjoyed Nom*D," she said.
"I'm sure there's going to be great pieces in Trelise's collection as well," she said yesterday morning.
Some of Bardo's A-list clients include Kate Hudson, Eva Mendes, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen and Christina Ricci.
One of her most memorable outfits was the gold lame Roberto Cavalli dress that Kate Hudson wore to the Skeleton Key premiere in 2005.
When styling a client, Bardo will take up to two racks of clothes for the star to try on.
"You don't know what the weather's going to be like that day. Are they going to be in the mood for a short dress? In the mood for colour?"
Regardless of her client's mood, however, Bardo maintains the right to veto an outfit if it doesn't work.
"First and foremost you pray to God that I don't bring them things that don't suit them," she said.
"But sometimes pieces don't work and that's my job as a stylist... to speak up."
Bardo, who has worked as a stylist for the past three years, describes her styling as chic and effortless and said that is why clients choose her.
"My clients always look as though they're comfortable in what they're wearing. The clothes aren't wearing them."
Bardo also has some style tips for New Zealanders as we head into the summer months.
"Black and white was everywhere this summer. And tailored, menswear inspired stuff. Feathers are also big," she said.
In general, she said there will be a move away from floaty, baby doll silhouettes, towards more structured clothing.
Bardo is in Auckland until Thursday, when she will fly to New York to style a new advertising campaign.
