He's said songstress Adele is fat, Pippa Middleton is ugly and most recently took aim at a whole group of people - saying those who go under the knife to look younger remind him of car crash victims with bad surgery.

Designer Karl Lagerfeld has no filter and no one is safe from the 80-year-old's acid tongue.

Herewith some of Karl's most controversial comments ever:

On people who have plastic surgery:

"Nothing makes you look older than attempting to look young. You can fool anyone, apart from the young. The worst are the lip operations. There are people who have it done and I don't recognise them afterwards. They look like they flew through the windscreen during a car accident and were patched up badly afterwards."

On Pippa Middleton:

"Kate Middleton has a nice silhouette and she is the right girl for that boy. I like that kind of woman, I like romantic beauties. On the other hand, her sister struggles. I don't like the sister's face. She should only show her back."

On Lana Del Rey, Adele and Florence Welch:

"I prefer Adele and Florence Welch. But as a modern singer she is not bad. The thing at the moment is Adele. She is a little too fat, but she has a beautiful face and a divine voice. Lana del Rey is not bad at all. She looks very much like a modern-time singer. In her photos she is beautiful. Is she a construct with all her implants? She's not alone with implants."

On ugly people:

"Life is not a beauty contest, some [ugly people] are great. What I hate is nasty, ugly people ... the worst is ugly, short men. Women can be short, but for men it is impossible. It is something that they will not forgive in life ... they are mean and they want to kill you."

On selfies:

"They are this horrible thing where you are distorted. The chin is too big, the head is too small. No, this is electronic masturbation."

On how he feels after a fashion show:

"I'm a kind of fashion nymphomaniac who never gets an orgasm."

On Russian men:

"If I was a woman in Russia I would be a lesbian, as the men are very ugly. There are a few handsome ones, like Naomi Campbell's boyfriend, but there you see the most beautiful women and the most horrible men."

On his signature sunglasses:

"They're my burka... I'm a little short-sighted, and people, when they're short-sighted, they remove their glasses and then they look like cute little dogs who want to be adopted."

On tattoos:

"I think tattoos are horrible. It's like living in a Pucci dress full-time. If you're young and tight, maybe it's okay, but..."

On Greece:

"Greece needs to work on a cleaner image. It's a big problem, as [Greeks] have this reputation of being so corrupt. You can't be sure the money will go where it's supposed to go. They need to build trust, and that takes time too. Nobody wants Greece to disappear, but they have really disgusting habits - Italy as well."

On himself:

"I'm very much down to earth, just not this earth."
